Retirement Track

Our retirement track is aimed at horses who are not in work and need a place to happily live out their days. The additional movement from living on the track mimics the natural conditions that horses were intended to live in, promoting mobility and overall health heading into old age. Encouraging movement can be pivotal for older horses. It is the most effective way to promote all areas of health while reducing stiffness in muscles and joints.

This track is a 600m long grass track with field shelters, hay stations, natural pond area and a hard walking track. The surrounding trees provide additional forage and shelter while the gentle slopes keep muscles working, increasing longevity for all equines. A safe, small holed wire fence is topped with wooden rails was specifically selected to keep even the most crafty equines where they should be. However, this track is wider and less manufactured than other tracks, giving more opportunity for natural browsing and grass intake. Our 'fat track' is specifically designed for severe metabolic cases where grass is out of the question and the surface is soft, perfect for rehabbing laminitic feet.

It's not just for older horses! Track life is ideal for those suffering from conditions which prevent stabling or have forced an early retirement. Our grazing is highly fibrous and low in sugar, making it easy to monitor and restrict calories for the metabolically challenged. The constant movement benefits those with old tendon/ligament injuries and keeps younger horses entertained with the variety that track life provides.
